Welcome to the In-Service Education Center.

The Jacksonville State University In-Service Education Center provides high quality professional development programs to meet the ever-increasing demands of public school teachers and administrators.  The Center is one of eleven Regional In-Service Center established by the Alabama Legislature in 1984.  The JSU In-Service Center provides an annual average of over 400 professional development programs to approximately 5,000 teachers and administrators employed in fifteen school systems in Northeast Alabama.  These school systems are: Anniston City, Attalla City, Calhoun County, Cherokee County, Clay County, Cleburne County, Etowah County, Gadsden City, Jacksonville City, Oxford City, Pell City, Piedmont City, Randolph County, Roanoke City and St. Clair County. 

 The budget and the programs offered by the In-Service Education Center are the responsibility of a Governing Board composed of representatives from JSU, school systems, and the Alabama State Department of Education. The programs offered by the In-Service Center are designed to enhance teacher skills and knowledge to improve K-12 student achievement.  Funding of the In-Service Center is provided by Legislative appropriations.

The In-Service Education Center at Jacksonville State University is located in the College of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education.  The Center is also responsible for administering Alabama Science in Motion, Technology in Motion, Alabama Reading Initiative and Alabama Reading First Initiative.
